FAO is raising awareness on “Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture” concepts to more than 3 000 children aged between 7 to 12 years old within 20 schools located in Rural Damascus and Homs Governorates in the Syrian Arab Republic, by the establishment of school gardens for multiple purposes (education, awareness raising, training, production, horticultural skills in agriculture, cooking demonstrations, food processing). This falls under a joint UN programme entitled “Education for All” with a generous support by the Government of Japan, the programme will also train 340 teachers on school gardening practices, concepts on healthy diets and best agriculture practices.
