Field visit to Guiuan and Tacloban

Dec 2013

Field visit to the Eastern Visayas Region (Region VIII) in the Philippines where FAO has a regional hub (based in Tacloban), and which was the region most affected by the typhoon.

The purpose of the trip was to have the opportunity to make observations of affected areas, meet with members of the FSA Cluster for Region VIII, and meet with key stakeholders (government counterparts, humanitarian agencies and members of the affected communities) for two projects to develop:

  1. A joint FAO, ILO and Save the Children DFID-funded project that will focus on affected small-scale coconut farming communities in the Leyte Province, and
  2. A joint FAO, ILO and UNDP project funded by Saudi Arabia to support fishing communities in Guiuan municipality.
