Key messages
- From June to August 2018, FAO bolstered the food production capacity of households in northeastern Nigeria through the provision of seed and fertilizer to about 112 500 households (790 000 people) in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. The distribution will support enhanced food security, nutrition and income generation for families affected by the insurgency.
- Rainy season crop harvests, beginning in September, will test the effectiveness of livelihood responses made during the planting period and are being closely monitored to ensure the intended impact on food security, nutrition and incomes.
- FAO faces a funding gap of close to USD 13.9 million to boost agricultural production in the forthcoming 2018/19 dry season (beginning September 2018 in some areas) as well as year-round livelihood activities.
