Information such as the duties, responsibilities and minimum requirements for the position are given. Qualified candidates should forward their application to the email address indicated in the relevant Vacancy Announcement.
How do I apply for a job at FAO?
As FAO is currently transitioning to a new, online recruitment system: iRecruitment, please carefully read the instructions in the How to Apply section of each vacancy before applying. Professional vacancies are almost exclusively published in the iRecruitment system while other vacancy types such as Project vacancies, Consultancies, and General Service vacancies are published on the FAO Employment Website but request that applicants send their application to an email address provided at the bottom of the vacancy announcement. All vacancies are listed at: http://www.fao.org/employment/en/
What type of expertise do I need to work at FAO?
FAO employs people from a range of areas of expertise. Please view the web sites of the FAO Departments to see the scope of their work and activities. Consult the vacancy announcements to see the minimum requirements for the different grades. In general, however, all professional posts require relevant academic qualifications and work experience, as well as a working knowledge of at least one of the languages of the Organization (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian).
Who can apply for Internal Vacancy Announcements ?
Any current staff member holding a fixed-term, short-term or continuing appointment (including Associate Professional Officers (APO) and National Professional Officers (NPO)) at FAO, as well as staff seconded to FAO; FAO staff members seconded to other organizations; and current staff members of other organizations and agencies of the United Nations Common System where there is reciprocity (i.e. UNIFEM and female staff members from the UN Secretariat), can apply.
Could you please tell me if my country is currently non- or under-represented at FAO?
What is the status of my application for a specific job with FAO?
If you have applied for a vacancy announcement not published in iRecruitment, the responsible department will respond within four weeks (from the time it has been received), acknowledging the receipt of the application.During this period, please refrain from inquiries about your application, as this will delay our response time. You may view the list of positions that have been filled to see if the position that you applied for has been filled.
For vacancies published in FAO iRecruitment, as soon as you submit your application, a notification will appear on the top of the screen informing you that you have successfully applied; in addition, you may check the section "Jobs Applied For" in your iRecruitment home page where you will find a list of the applications for which you have applied.
Please note that the selection process may take in excess of six months for completion.

Does FAO offer grants?
FAO does not have funds available to support individual requests. The FAO Fellowship programme is a world-wide endeavor and all awards form an integral part of technical assistance projects. As such projects are agreed upon in advance by the government of recipient developing countries, the donors and FAO, it is not possible for the Organization to consider individual requests.
