Calculation of geographic representation within FAO is based on three criteria:
- Member country population;
- Member country contribution to the FAO annual budget.
FAO encourages applications from qualified nationals of non- and under- represented member countries as well as qualified women.
Non-represented Countries: member countries with no nationals currently working for FAO on a professional post under the Regular Programme budget.
The following countries were non-represented in the FAO Regular Programme as at 31 March 2013:
Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahrain, Belize, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Cuba, Cyprus, Democratic P.R. of Korea, Eritrea, Federated States of Micronesia, Grenada, Kiribati, Kuwait, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Latvia, Libya, Marshall Islands, Monaco, Montenegro, Myanmar, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Panama, Qatar, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Saudi Arabia, Solomon Islands, Suriname, Thailand, Timor Leste, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates.
Under-represented Countries: member countries with less than the established minimum number of nationals currently working for FAO under the Regular Programme budget.
The following countries were under-represented on the FAO Regular Programme as at 31 March 2013:
China, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Oman, Poland, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Sweden, Venezuela, Viet Nam.
