Biotechnology in Food and Agriculture
A wealth of news and information on all aspects of biotechnology, including a glossary, relevant documents and an electronic forum. FAO's Statement on Biotechnology can be accessed from this site. There are also news items and e-mail conferences on relevant topics such as biosafety and gene flow.

FAO's Biotechnology site now has a comprehensive selection of links on biotechnology. These include Ag BioTech InfoNet, which has further links to sites both supportive and critical of new biotechnologies.

Codex Alimentarius Commission
The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963 by FAO and WHO to develop food standards and food safety guidelines to protect the health of consumers, to ensure fair trade practices in the food trade and to promote coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations. It has recently reported on foods derived from modern biotechnology, and documentation can be downloaded from the site.

Ethics in Food and Agriculture
This site reflects FAO's activities on the many ethical issues presented by global food production, including changing technology. The FAO Ethics Series publication Genetically modified organisms, consumers, food safety and the environment can be downloaded from here.

Biological Diversity in Food and Agriculture
This site is an important source of information on the importance of biodiversity in food production and global initiatives on protecting biodiversity.

Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
The Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity seeks to protect biological diversity from the potential risks posed by living modified organisms resulting from modern biotechnology.
