Education’s contribution to rural development: the case of Yene’ s fishing community

FAO Headquarter, Rome, Italy

On 14 March 2007 the Education for Rural People Coordination Unit organized a seminar to present a case study focusing on the contribution of a rural school in Yene (Dakar’s region, Senegal) to the livelihoods of the fishing community.
The study provides an insight on how the curricula, the teaching methods and the learning materials were shaped to respond to the rural people’s needs.

The study was based on a field research conducted by Ms Silvia Baronio for the University of Bologna, Italy. Ms Baronio was a FAO Volunteer in the Education for Rural People Coordination Unit in 2006-2007.
