Pilot project for developing a national Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping System (FIVIMS)
The overall objective of the project is to develop and test a mechanism that would enable the Government of India itself to produce updated, relevant, high-quality information derived from the regular monitoring and cross-sectoral analysis of a limited number of specific indicators relevant to food insecurity and vulnerability, in a user-friendly format at different administrative levels.
The project aims to develop national mechanisms that in the longer term can assist government policy makers, programme managers and administrators in better designing and targeting measures to relieve hunger.
ROA: Roles of Agriculture
The project aims to provide a more comprehensive view of the roles that agriculture plays in promoting human well-being. Beyond traditionally considered contributions to food security and overall economic growth, agriculture serves less recognized functions such as the provision of positive environmental services, the preservation of biodiversity, an engine for poverty reduction and a safety net in times of crisis. The project identifies and measures these roles through a series of country case studies. The results of this study will be used to better inform policy makers as they consider plans for sustainable economic and social development.
