Support to the Food Security Assessment Unit (FSAU)

The overall development objective addresses the need to enhance the medium term food security status of the Somali people, in addition to meeting immediate short term food security concerns.

In this context, the overall development objectives are to reduce chronic food insecurity of the Somali people through improved coping strategies and medium term development programming and to prevent temporary (transient) food insecurity through more effective targeting of short term interventions (food aid/other humanitarian assistance).

Food security and crisis

The project aims to support the development of policy frameworks to address longer-term programming challenges in different emergency contexts through the provision of timely and accurate information, both technical and for advocacy purposes. ESA has therefore developed a new international portal on food security to provide access to information and online networks to field practitioners and food security and policy analysts.
