Outlook and Policy Reports
Latest market assessments and short-term forecasts for wheat and coarse grains are available in FAO's bi-annual Food Outlook and bi-monthly Crop Prospects and Food Situation. The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook includes the medium-term projections for grains, and Basic Policies for Food Commodities reports on the main policy developments that have taken place during the periods under review. Monthly News Report on Grains
The main purpose of the MNR is to establish a communication vehicle for closer dialogue between the FAO Secretariat and the Members of the Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Grains as well as the general public. Intergovernmental Group on Grains
The FAO Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Grains represents a forum for intergovernmental consultation and exchange on trends in production, consumption, trade, stocks and prices of wheat and coarse grains, including regular appraisal of the world grain situation and short term outlook. The Group, under FAO auspices, considers changes in national grain policies and examines their international effects as pertaining to the current and prospective grain situation. The First Session of the FAO Group on Grains was held in May 1957 and since then it has met once in each biennium. Recent sessions have been held jointly with the IGG on rice. The last Joint Session was held in May 2007 in Istanbul with the collaboration of the Government of Turkey. [ more... ]

Development Projects
In 1995, the Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Grains was designated as International Commodity Body (ICB) for supervision of projects supported by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) on grains as well as roots, tubers and pulses. Since 1995, the Group has endorsed 12 projects worth over US$ 20 million, located in Africa, Asia and Latin America & Caribbean. The commodities covered include sorghum, millet, maize, fonio, cassava and potatoes. [ more... ]

Aid and Food Security
The Grains Team is responsible for maintaining a close watch on global food security developments, policy issues and food aid flows. The Team contributes to a wide range of FAO Committees and reports. It also collaborates closely with other international agencies which are involved in food aid activities. The group represents FAO at the Food Aid Convention meetings and other relevant international forums. [ more... ]
