Kostas Stamoulis, Service Chief, ESAEkostas stamoulis

Before he joined FAO Kostas was teaching Agricultural Economics at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. He has many years of experience in research and analysis of the role of agriculture in growth and poverty reduction; the effects of stabilization on agricultural performance; the role of the non-farm rural sector on growth and food security and the impact of urbanization and globalization. A Greek national, he has a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Keith has over 15 years experience in research and policy analysis relating to resource use, agricultural productivity, and food security at household, regional, and global levels. Prior to joining FAO he was Deputy Director of the Resource and Rural Economics Division, Economic Research Service, US Department of Agriculture. A US national, he has a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Since 1999, Chief of the Global Perspective Studies Unit at FAO after having been in the same Unit as Economist (since 1979) and Senior Economist (since 1986). Joined FAO in 1975 as an economist in the Policy Analysis Division. Worked also briefly at the Development Research Centre, World Bank, and the Stanford Food Research Institute. From 1973 to 1975 economist at the Centre for World Food Studies at the Free University of Amsterdam and before that lecturer of mathematics at the Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam.
