Review Meeting on World Programme for the Census of Agriculture

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE MEETING

approach for the World Programme for the 2010 Round of Agricultural
Censuses (WCA2010).
OBJECTIVE
The meeting was organised with the objective of gathering
expert opinion on the new approach for the World Programme for the
2010 Round of Agricultural Censuses (WCA2010) (see Annotated
Agenda of the meeting). The major changes to the Programme were
discussed and conclusions drawn. Discussion items included: the
need for increased coordination between the population and agricultural
censuses; ways of measuring the contribution of women in agriculture;
use of standard international classifications; measurement of household
food security; monitoring of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
and the collection of Community Level data. Technical issues connected
with extending the scope of agricultural census to cover aquaculture
were deliberated in the Meeting. Topics for a possible set of thematic
surveys which should be carried out as a follow-up to agricultural
census were also deliberated upon in the meeting.
The conclusions and recommendations
of the meeting will provide a critical input to the finalization
of the new Programme and provide guidance on further methodological
development work to be undertaken by the Division.
