NDC Bamako: National Demonstration Centre (NDC) on Food Security and Consumption Statistics from Household Income and expenditure Surveys (HIES) for French speaking countries of West and Central Africa

BACKGROUND

The Food Security Indicators Group, Global Statistics Service(ESSG) of the Statistics Division, FAO is organizing, in collaboration with AFRISTAT in Bamako, a NDC on Food Security and Consumption Statistics from Household Income and expenditure Surveys (HIES) for French speaking countries in the West and Central Africa regions in August 2007.

PURPOSE

To strengthen countries statistical analytical capability for the assessment and monitoring of the food situation in the country.

OBJECTIVE

To derive relevant food consumption and security statistics from existing food data collected from past HIES through the application of the FAO methodology using the Food Security Statistics Module (FSSM) software.

OUNTRY REQUIREMENT

Have conducted a recent Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) or Household Budget Survey (HBS) or Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) or "Enquêtes de Dépense et Revenu des Ménages (EDRM).

INVITED COUNTRY PARTICIPANTS

Two participants, one from the National Statistical Organization and one from the National Planning Food Agency or Food Security Unit of French speaking countries in the West and Central Africa regions.
