BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE MEETING
The Meeting on Food and Agricultural Statistics in
Europe, convened jointly by Eurostat, FAO, OECD and the UNECE, was
held in Rome, Italy, 29 June - 1 July 2005.

OBJECTIVE
The following substantive topics were discussed at
the meeting on the basis of invited and supporting papers prepared
and conference room documents :
- Information items :
- MEXSAI, 3rd World Conference on Agriculture Statistics
- Programme for the World Census of Agriculture 2010
- FAOSTAT and CountrySTAT
- Statistics related to food safety and related quality control
procedures
- Introduction of the international Handbook on Rural Household,
Livelihood and Well-Being: Statistics on Rural development and
Agriculture Household Income
- Rural development statistics (part I of the Handbook)
- Measurement of agricultural household income including the
definition of the agricultural household (part II of the Handbook)
- Agri-environmental, organic farming and sustainability statistics
- The role of the agriculture, agri-food and the agri-industry
in the economy
INVITED PARTICIPANTS
Representatives of the different European
countries were invited, as well as Officers from international organizations
involved in the subject.
