ECE-FAO-Eurostat-OECD Meeting on Food and Agricultural
Statistics
Geneva, 2-4 July 2003
BACKGROUND
The Meeting on Food and Agricultural Statistics in
Europe, convened jointly by Eurostat, FAO, OECD and the UNECE, was
held in Geneva from 2-4 July 2003.
It was attended by Albania, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria,
Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany,
Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania,
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian
Federation, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom
and United States of America. The European Communities was represented
by Eurostat. Representatives of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation
and Development (OECD), Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)
and World Health Organization (WHO) also attended.
OBJECTIVE
The following substantive topics were discussed at
the meeting on the basis of invited and supporting papers prepared
and conference room documents that countries and organisations had
contributed:
(a) Stocktaking of recent developments and future
needs in food and agriculture statistics;
(b) Measurement of farm household income and wealth versus agriculture
activity income;
(c) Statistics related to multifunctionality, sustainability, rural
space & environment and their interaction with agriculture;
(d) Classification systems and their adaptation to new needs;
(e) Implications of new technologies on production and dissemination
of agriculture statistics.
