BACKGROUND The Global Statistics Service of the Statistics Division of FAO is organizing, in collaboration with the INEC and FITTACORI of Costa Rica a NDC on Food Security and Consumption Statistics from Household Income and Expenditure Surveys (HIES) for countries in the Latin America and the Caribbean in April 2008. PURPOSE To strengthen countries statistical analytical capability for assessing and monitoring of the food situation in the country OBJECTIVE To derive relevant food security and consumption statistics from food data collected from recent HIES through the application of the FAO methodology using the Food Security Statistics Module (FSSM) software COUNTRY REQUIREMENT Have conducted a recent Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) or Household Budget Survey (HBS) or Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS). INVITED COUNTRY PARTICIPANTS Two participants, one from the National Statistical Organization and one from the National Planning Food Agency or Food Security Unit of selected countries in the Latin America and the Caribbean.
