Questionnaire on Prices Received by Farmers and
Supplementary Information on Metadata relating to Primary Crops,
Livestock Products and Live Animals
2003
Section 1. General Objective
The FAO has been publishing data on producer prices
for primary crops and livestock products. Based on numerous demands
for agriculture production and price index as well as price data
in absolute terms for important products, it has been decided to
collect detailed data for trienniums for compilation of weighting
diagrams for the two index numbers and limited data on major products
to meet needs for current price statistics. FAO also receives requests
for national practices for data collection, data processing and
dissemination. The attached questionnaire, therefore, on the one
hand covers prices received by farmers, on the other hand includes
questions on metadata on national practice. Data is being used by
FAO to up-date the on-line database on agricultural producer prices
and to prepare weighting scheme for compilation of a new series
of index number on agricultural production and prices with 1999-2001
as the base year. The questionnaire will be issued annually.
FAO’s web-site ( http://www.fao.org/waicent/faostat/agricult/prodpric-e.htm
) presents a technical note on concepts and definitions related
to producer prices for estimating the farm-gate prices and uses
of the data in plan formulation and policy making.
In your reply, you may wish to share with us your
experience in filling the questionnaire (e.g. difficulties faced)
and make any suggestion you deem important for our review of questionnaire’s
outlay or content. It is essential that the responding offices
be identified on the questionnaire, so that FAO may communicate
directly on technical details, if necessary.
An electronic version of the questionnaire through
e-mail is available upon request to Ms Carola Fabi, Statistician,
Statistical Analysis Service, FAO, Rome, Italy, e-mail: ESSA-questionnaires@fao.org,
fax: +39 06 5705 5615. Kindly specify the e-mail address to which
the questionnaire should be forwarded.
The questionnaire can be returned to FAO Statistics
Division in Rome through the FAO Representative Office in your country.
FAO takes this opportunity to convey its thanks
to your Government for its assistance in this task and looks forward
to receiving a reply.
