The right to food

FAO also collaborates closely with the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights (UNHCHR).  In this connection, FAO is the custodian of the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the Right to Adequate Food in the Context of National Food Security, adopted by the FAO Council in 2004, which provide an additional instrument to combat hunger and poverty and to accelerate attainment of the MDGs.
