Food systems for better nutrition

The State of Food and Agriculture 2013, FAO’s major annual flagship publication launched
4 June 2013, Rome – “Malnutrition in all its forms imposes unacceptable high costs on the society” says FAO’s State of Food and Agriculture one of the major annual flagship publication was launched on Tuesday 4 June. It focuses in 2013 on Food Systems for better Nutrition. It furthermore emphazises that addressing malnutrition requires complementary interventions in food systems, public health and education.
Also for the European and Central Asia Region there is a problem with undernutrition, with mirconutrient deficiencies and also with overweight and obesity. Some countries are affected by all three factors but the majority is affected by two factors such as undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. A problem for an increasing number of countries is overweight and obesity, which a number of EU countries are suffering from.

Three-year technical assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia totalling € 2 million implemented by FAO and funded by the European Union

The €2 million funding will improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in Georgia through supporting effective policy making. In particular, it will improve the efficiency of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia in the implementation of the Strategy for Agricultural Development.
