Six Permanent Representatives or Deputy Permanent Representatives to UN FAO came to Kyrgyzstan on an official visit 25-28 September, 2013.
Mr. Marc Heirman, Deputy Permanent Representative (Belgium), Ms. Debra Price, Deputy Permanent Representative (Canada), Mr. Friedel Cramer, Deputy Permanent Representative (Germany), Ms. Carla Mucavi, Permanent Representative (Mozambique), Mr. Lupino J. Lazaro, Jr., Deputy Permanent Representative (Philippines), and Mr. Haytham Abdulmomen Hassan Shoja’aadin, Counsellor, Alternate Permanent Representative (Yemen) familiarized themselves with the activities of the UNFAO decentralized office in the landlocked country in the heart of Central Asia. Representatives met FAO field staff and FAO partners in state agencies and donor organizations.
The visit was successful in deepening their understanding of the developmental and humanitarian issues Kyrgyzstan currently faces.
The delegates met partners in the Ministry of Agriculture and Amelioration of the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Agency of Environment and Forestry and the National Statistics Committee. They also met the German Ambassador in the Kyrgyz Republic as well as the Head of the EC Delegation, the UN Resident Coordinator, Country Directors of UN Women and WFP, and WB and IFAD officials.
The visit included a field trip to Chui and Issyk-Kul provinces of the Kyrgyz Republic, where the Representatives familiarized themselves with FAO projects on seed and cattle development, as well as fish and aquaculture.
