Joint press conference of the FAO Regional Office, the Hungarian Ministry for Rural Development and the Hungarian Food Bank Association was held to commemorate World Food Day on 16 October 2013. The event was held in the Vajdahunyadvar, Budapest, Hungary.
Mr Tony Alonzi, FAO Regional Representative informed about the global situation of malnutrition and stressed on its serious economic impacts on the society. He emphasized the importance of the food systems and the change of consumers' attitude in order to improve sustainability of the food production.
Mr Geza Poprady, State Secretary, MoRD, Hungary, stressed on the programmes and initiatives which are to support better nutrition in Hungary and he added "wasting food is also morally unacceptable because of the hungry and needy."
Ms Anna Terfy, executive director of the Hungarian Food Bank Association informed the press, that the 8th Food Convoy organized on WFD 2013 transported the donations of 16 food producer and trade partners in the quantity of 60 tonnes of staple food.
