FAO and EU Partnership

Emergency and rehabilitation projects

Emergency interventions are normally identified in the context of the UN-wide appeal process (i.e. Flash Appeals, Consolidated Appeal Process, Humanitarian Action Plans or others) for those countries where major humanitarian assistance is required (Finalcial Tracking Service). Within this appeal process, FAO usually coordinates the emergency response to the agricultural sector.

Project ideas may be substantiated by other processes, such as FAO’s Crop and Food Supply Assessment Missions and/or by Rapid Needs Assessments using the available tools and guidelines.

Project ideas should be based on the respective Humanitarian Implementation Plan (HIP) and be brought to the attention of the European Commission humanitarian aid department (ECHO) both at field level (Technical Advisors) and at headquarters level (geographical desk) through the submission of letters of intention.
