EU, FAO continue to help farmers affected by floods in Serbia

Some 150 small farming households affected by last year’s devastating floods received practical help today from the European Union and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).  The assistance, aimed at restoring their livelihoods, comes as part of the EU’s total flood recovery package to Serbia valued at Euro 30 million.

Each of the beneficiary farms received 200 kilograms of certified barley seed, and will receive 300 kilos of mineral fertilizer in a few days’ time. Over the next few days, more than 900 families in Loznica are targeted to receive different spring crop packages – such as barley, livestock peas, lucerne and corn, along with mineral fertilizer – under the current round of support.

Present for today’s event were Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, Minister of Agriculture and Environmental protection, Oscar Benedict, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, and Vidoje Petrovic, President of Loznica municipality.
