L’évaluation à la FAO

Mid-term evaluation of "Integrated management of marine and coastal areas of high value for biodiversity in continental Ecuador"

Continental Ecuador is characterized by a high diversity of marine and coastal ecosystems, including nesting beaches for four species of sea turtles and extensive mangrove areas that provide ecosystem goods and services. The Project, implemented by FAO from 2016 to 2020, seeks to overcome the main threats that affect marine and coastal biological diversity and contribute to improving the livelihoods of communities in these areas. The project is contributing significantly to this last objective by developing fishing management plans and productive development projects. However, it should continue its efforts to implement an alternative strategy against the impossibility of creating new protected areas and the integration of the Integrated Coastal Management approach in the coastal management of local governments.
