13 March 2019
This evaluation appraises progress achieved on the implementation of the Strategy and Vision for FAO’s Work on Nutrition since it was adopted in 2012. It found that FAO’s nutrition-sensitive work has grown significantly since the Strategy was promulgated, and has evolved towards more deliberate efforts to address all forms of malnutrition. There also has been a surge in the development of knowledge products. However, the Strategy lacked an accountability framework, and paid insufficient attention to operational issues. Nutrition is a domain [...]

Final Evaluation of the Project: "Management of Chimborazo’s Natural Resources"

22 February 2019
The ecosystem aimed to conserve and sustainably manage by the GEF-funded project “Management of Chimborazo’s Natural Resources" is the “páramo” which offers important environmental services such as the production of water, the capture of CO2 and great variety of native crops preserved thanks to the traditional knowledge of indigenous communities. The project's achievements were significant in the Chimborazo province: raising environmental awareness on the conservation of water resources, creation of regulations to implement compensation mechanisms for environmental services in order [...]

Final Evaluation of Development of the Trans-frontier Conservation Area Linking Forest Reserves and Protected Areas in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire

20 February 2019
In West Africa, wildlife species including elephants are found in small, isolated forest fragments. As human and economic activities expand, habitat fragmentation accelerates and animals face a growing threat of extinction. In many forest reserves, communities engage in subsistence agriculture and rely on wild animals for meat. Human-wildlife conflict has also been on the rise, with few efforts so far to solve this problem. In this context, the project GCP/RAF/447/GFF sought to construct a conservation corridor between Cote d'Ivoire and [...]

Final Evaluation of the Project “Building a Global Agenda of Action in Support of Sustainable Livestock Sector Development”

01 February 2019
Is sustainable livestock production possible, and if so, what does it look like? Livestock sector is at the center of climate and environmental issues, and plays a major role in poverty reduction and food security and nutrition. In 2011 FAO began hosting a participatory multi-stakeholder initiative to address these issues, which currently brings together 105 member organizations from Academia, Donors, International Organizations, NGOs, Public Sector, Private Sector and Social Movements, as well as producer organizations. The Global Agenda for Sustainable [...]

Final Evaluation of the Project “Increased Household Food, Income and Nutrition Security through Commercialization of an Integrated and Sustainable Smallholder Livestock Sector in Zimbabwe”

26 November 2018
The Final Evaluation of the Project “Increased Household Food, Income and Nutrition Security through Commercialization of an Integrated and Sustainable Smallholder Livestock Sector in Zimbabwe” concluded that the Project’s objective of changing mindsets of smallholder livestock farmers to view livestock as important economic assets more than a social asset was very relevant and timely. The Projects’ implementation modality of having two co-applicants was strategic: it was able capitalize on the local knowledge and expertise of the co-applicants. However, this implementation [...]
