Improving Agriculture and Food Security through Evaluation at the 9th AfrEA Conference

Over 650 participants from 60 countries gathered at the 9th International Conference of the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA), which took place in Abidjan from 11 to 15 March 2019. The conference theme “Accelerating Africa’s Development: Strengthening National Evaluation Ecosystems” animated lively debates on how to promote Africa-rooted and Africa-led evaluation by sharing African evaluation perspectives and how to gain recognition of the role of Africa in the evaluation “ecosystem”. On 31 October, Mr Masahiro Igarashi, Director of the FAO Office of Evaluation (OED) met with H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Royal Government of Cambodia. New EVAL-ForwARD Community of Practice launched

EVAL-ForwARD is a new Community of Practice (CoP) for evaluation in Agriculture, Food Security and Rural Development, created in response to a call for strengthening evaluation capacities, enunciated both in a UN General Assembly resolution and in the Evaluation of FAO’s evaluation function. The Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluation's Steering Group met in Geneva

The Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluations were initiated in response to UN General Assembly and ECOSOC resolutions to enhance accountability and strengthen the collective humanitarian response by the United Nations and its partner members of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC).
