Call for Expressions of Interest - Team Leader and Team Members for the Evaluation of FAO’s Role in Support of Crop Production :
As part of its global goals to eradicate world hunger, eliminate poverty, promote economic and social progress and achieve full sustainability in the use of natural resources, FAO seeks to increase and improve agricultural production, of which a major part is crops. FAO's as the food and agriculture arm of the United Nations has historically focused on the production of crops. From its earliest days and well into the 1990s, a large share of projects implemented by FAO were in crop production. FAO’s global role, focus and comparative advantage on crop production issues have undergone significant changes over time. Demand is again growing for FAO to provide advice or endorsement for specific technologies and approaches including “Sustainable Crop Production Intensification” (SCPI) focusing on increasing agricultural (crop) productivity; enhancing sustainable crop protection (e.g., using IPM); efficiently managing biodiversity and ecosystem services; and strengthening livelihoods through support to crop-related value chains.
