Evaluation of the Emergency Prevention System (EMPRES) Programme in Food Chain Crises

The FAO Office of Evaluation (OED) recently carried out an evaluation of FAO’s work on transboundary animal and plant pests and diseases and food safety threats. The Organization has been actively engaged in this very important area of work for over 20 years and the evaluation covered both the more recent years as well as the evolution of FAO’s programme over the longer period. FAO covers the areas of animal health and diseases, including aquatic species, plant pests and diseases – with a large locust programme- forest pests and diseases and food safety threats. Its work is geared to supporting member countries improve their legislation and regulatory frameworks, set-up early warning systems, strengthen prevention and early response and foster the exchange of learning and research across countries and regions.
