Small Family Farming in Viet Nam - a country specific outlook

This Smallholder Country Factsheet developed by the ESA Small Family Farm Team examines the strengths and weaknesses of smallholders in Viet Nam. Viet Nam's remarkable transformation to a low middle-income country within the past decade was strongly driven by an increasing productivity of the agricultural sector. Still, 89 percent of all farmers in Viet Nam remain small family farms with very small plots of land and weak usage of motorised equipment. Compared to other Southeast Asian countries, however, Viet Nam's small family farms profit from improved market access and increasing access to irrigation systems which leads to a relatively high on-farm productivity.
