Description:
The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (IAMM) is one of the four institutes of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), an intergovernmental organization established in 1962, which works for improving sustainable agriculture and fisheries, for ensuring food and nutrition security and for developing rural and coastal territories. The organization gathers 13 Member States from both shores of the Mediterranean (Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey) and works with several international and regional institutions. Our vision is that of a Mediterranean region in which a spirit of cooperation prevails, benefiting from a balanced development supported by efficient and sustainable agriculture and prosperous rural territories. The current Mediterranean context pushes us to work tirelessly to make this vision a reality. Our mission follows the strategic priorities of CIHEAM aiming at implementing in the Mediterranean the rural development objectives adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly. Specifically, those strategic priorities are based on four pillars: • the principle of "zero waste", whether in terms of food, natural resources or knowledge, • sustainable agricultural and food systems, • attractive rural territories to live and work in, • prevention of risks and conflict resolution Regarding the IAMM strictly speaking, our areas of expertise and action focus on subjects related to the management of agriculture and territories, to project engineering, to public policies for agriculture, environment and, food and to rural development, agri-food systems and agri-logistics.
