Founded in 1996 by five young graduates, COMINSUD is a development organization that works to empower communities towards achieving their development objectives, with a vision of a responsive society where the principles and standards of good governance are respected and upheld for sustainable human and environmental development. COMINSUD has evolved from a local group taking direct action to improve waste management to a leading organization in Cameroon’s Civil Society. Mission: COMINSUD is a development organisation that works to empower communities towards achieving their development goals Vision: A responsive society where the principles and standards of good governance are respected and upheld for sustainable human and environmental development. Strategy: COMINSUD works through a process of reflection, dialogue, action and networking involving the active participation of government, civil society, and local communities and community-based organisations. Values: Respect of environment, of human rights and dignity; reflect positive norms and values of society; in accordance with principles of good governance and gender-sensitive development COMINSUD over the past 22 years has built expertise in the following areas: a. Grassroots political empowerment: mobilizing women, youth and persons from minority groups increasing their representation in power structures and decision making positions b. Promoting positive changes on gender and building social inclusion: working with councils, traditional rulers and structures together with their communities to making positive changes on institutional and of cultural practices for the benefit of disadvantaged and vulnerable segments of the population c. Facilitating sustainable agriculture and environmental management: working with small holder farmers, forest dependent communities living in and around protected areas, schools and relevant government agencies to seek better ways improving agricultural performance, manage forests and the environment to provide inclusive benefits at local, national and international levels. d. Promoting good governance: Voicing concerns and providing opportunities for voicing, enhancing participation, pushing for efficiency via campaigning, lobbying and advocacy initiatives in the areas of Right to Food and land governance, water, sanitation and hygiene, human rights and democracy, decentralization and conflicts e. Effective dissemination of information: Producing simplified and practical manuals and guides to enhance community knowledge on topics as diverse as climate change, HIV work place policies, public investment budgets, laws on protected areas and human rights, right to food and land governance, youth employment and enterprise development, elections and human rights, water sanitation and hygiene etc. f. Engage in humanitarian work: Seek support, fosters collaboration and networking to being assistance to persons in need.
