The Ministry is guided by the vision of being a “competitive, profitable and sustainable agricultural sector” with the mission of "transforming subsistence farming to commercial agriculture”. The sector investment strategy ending FY 2020/2021 has been targeted at achieving four major objectives: i) Increasing agricultural production and productivity; ii) Increasing access to critical farm inputs; iii) Improving agricultural markets and value addition; and iv) Improving service delivery through strengthening the institutional capacity. The interventions focused on 12 priority commodities, namely: bananas, beans, maize, rice, cassava, tea, coffee, fruits and vegetables, dairy, fish, livestock (meat); and four strategic commodities, namely cocoa, cotton, seeds oil and palm oil.
