Food safety and consumer protection – laws and regulations

The current list of legislation, related to food safety and consumer protection in each country, is extracted from FAO's database on Food Legislation FAOLEX.

The national Codex programme

National Codex consultative mechanism
Codex proposals are discussed with all stakeholders in recurrent meetings. The Netherlands position is then represented in the EU coordination meeting. After each Codex Committee meeting a report in English is published on the Codex website (http://www.fao.org/fao-who-codexalimentarius/meetings-reports/en/). A short summary of the report in Dutch is published on the Dutch Codex website (https://www.codexalimentarius.nl/).
Providers of scientific and technical input to national consultation on Codex
Dutch scientific experts participate in JECFA, JMPR and other meetings. Technical support assessing draft standards is provided by technical experts of the stakeholders.

Risk Assessments and Scientific Data

National bodies providing risk assessment and scientific advice
For EU-related issues, major advice is provided by EFSA and the EU Community Reference Laboratories. On a national level, risk assessments and scientific advice is provided by various organisations, including the Office for Risk Assessment of the NVWA, National Institute for Public Health, and RIKILT Laboratories.
