Координационный комитет Кодекса по Африке (CCAFRICA), региональный координатор – Кения

Траектория развития Африки характеризуется экономическим ростом в среднем на 5% в год и увеличением численности среднего класса.

Сельскохозяйственный потенциал Африки остается в значительной степени неиспользуемым: в странах Африки к югу от Сахары находится примерно 60% некультивируемых плодородных земель мира. В нескольких странах имеются хорошо развитые фермерские хозяйства, налажено производство пищевых продуктов и действует сектор розничной торговли, который принимает участие и в отечественном, и в международном рынках.

Доступ к рынкам обусловливает актуальную необходимость развития научно обоснованных стандартов на пищевые продукты, включая стандарты по безопасности пищевых продуктов, в целях создания возможностей для национальной, региональной и международной торговли пищевыми продуктами, таким образом обеспечивая место Африки в глобальном продовольственном рынке.

Комиссия "Кодекс Алиментариус" предлагает решения для раскрытия потенциала для роста потребления продовольствия, развития экономики и расширения доступа стран-членов CCAFRICA к новым продовольственным рынкам.

Dr. Moses Gathura Gichia Coordinator for Africa Region retires

CCAFRICA Coordinator and Executive Committee Member of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Dr. Moses Gathura Gichia has recently announced his retirement from public service and as the Coordinator of the Joint FAO/WHO Regional Coordinating Committee for Africa. Kenya hosts successful Coordinating Committee

This video report from CNBC Africa reviews the 22nd session of the FAO/WHO Regional Coordinating Committee for Africa which met in Nairobi, Kenya earlier this month. Reporter Charles Gitonga highlights the main challenges regarding food safety in the region and the ongoing work of the Codex Alimentarius to ensure, through establishing international food standards, that food is safe and that it can be traded fairly.

A united African voice for Codex

The 20th session of the FAO/WHO Regional Coordinating Committee for the African region began yesterday in Nairobi, Kenya. The continent of Africa consists of 54 very diverse countries covering 11.7 million square miles. Trade in region now runs in excess of 50 billion USD a year. Strengthening National Codex Committees

CCAFRICA has been involved in strengthening National Codex Committees in Lesotho,Swaziland and Zimbambwe. This has empowered CCAFRICA to participate in the global standard development process and reap the benefits of implementing Codex Standards. CCAFRICA acknowledges the support of FAO in this endevour. A workshop sponsored by the AU-IBAR was held in December 2015 in Senegal on Strengthening of National Codex Committees in the ECOWAS region block.

WHO: safer food for all

CCAFRICA was central in development of WHO :Safer Food For All document which is aimed to simplify application of the HACCP Principles in Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs). CCAFRICA closely collaborated with WHO in the exercise.
