The CCEURO Region - Regional Coordinator Germany

In 1964, at its second session, the Codex Alimentarius Commission established the Coordinating Committee for Europe to succeed the 'European Council of the Codex Alimentarius' and to replace the 'Advisory Group for Europe' set up at its first session in 1963.

The first meeting of the Coordinating Committee for Europe took place in July 1965 in Berne, Switzerland and was attended by 16 countries from the region.

The current coordinator, Germany, is based in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

Germany’s main priorities as coordinator are to:

  • reduce barriers to active participation of Members of the region in Codex work;
  • increase the awareness of the role of Codex and food safety in general in the transition towards sustainable food systems; and
  • promote the use of Codex standards in priority areas such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

In addressing these priorities, the coordinator will use synergies from international and regional level activities of the Codex Secretariat, FAO and WHO as well as Codex Observers.

Romanian university conducts youth and food safety competition to promote World Food Safety Day

In the context of the World Food Safety Day, the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering of the Politehnica University Timisoara, Romania, organized a poster contest “Youth and Food Safety - PolySafeFood 4th Edition”. Spanish food science and technology associations hold a webinar for World Food Safety Day

Food hygiene and horticulture the focus of two World Food Safety Day events in Kyrgyzstan

The Standardization and Metrology Centre of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic and FAO organized an international seminar in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, to mark World Food Safety Day. Poland’s third World Food Safety Day Food Fakty event has been announced

For the third year, with the support of the World Food Safety Day office, FoodFakty proposes the Polish initiative, FoodFakty Safety Week (FFSW) and will join the global celebrations of World Food Safety Day. Food safety lessons for schoolchildren in Portugal on World Food Safety Day

The school meals team at the Municipality of Alcobaça in Portugal organized a special World Food Safety Day event for the children whose meals they oversee. Professor Dr Parvez Haris from De Montfort University, Leicester, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, presented an online lecture for World Food Safety Day entitled “Can quinoa be a healthier and safer alternative to rice ?“.
