Codex Committee on Food Additives

Update on 18 January 2021

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 52nd meeting of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) has been rescheduled to take place from 6 to 10 September 2021.

In collaboration with the China National Health Commission and the CCFA Host Secretariat, the Codex Secretariat will assess whether the meeting can be held physically, or if has to take place virtually.

Information regarding how work will continue and other updates will be published as soon as they become available.

Continuation of the EWGs established by CCFA51

In order to make the most effective use of the time prior to the next physical session, the Electronic Working Groups (EWGs) on Alignment, Note 161, GSFA and INS respectively, has been continuing their work as necessary under the same terms of reference established by CCFA51.

Based on the comments received in response to CL 2020/34-FA and after further consultation with the EWG chairs, the following additional activities have been agreed on for three of the EWGs:

EWG on alignment:

  • Based on the forward work plan of the EWG - complete the alignment for the following milk and milk product commodity standards: CXS 207-1999, CXS 243-2003, CXS 253-2006, CXS 262-2006, CXS 281-1971, CXS 282-1971, CXS 288-1976, CXS 290-1995 and CXS 331-2017; and

  • Consider the matters referred by CCEURO relating to alignment of Standard for Fresh Fungus Chanterelle (CXS 40R-1981)


  • Consider the issues highlighted in document CX/FA 20/52/11 Add.1; and

  • Consider replies to CL 2020/35-FA “requests for addition and changes to the INS”; and preparing a proposal for circulation for comments at Step 3.


  • Continuation of work on colours: Circulate for comment provisions for colours in Food Categories 01.0 – 03.0 and subcategories, including all provisions currently in the step process and those adopted with Note 161.

The report of these EWGs will made available for consideration by CCFA52.


The documents for the session are available in English, French and Spanish. They will be published on the Codex website as soon as they are prepared.
