Chile plans three-pronged approach for World Food Safety Day

07/06/2021

Chile’s agency for food safety and quality (ACHIPIA) is planning to celebrate World Food Safety Day 2021 with a creative approach aimed at:

  • raising public awareness about food safety
  • educating on disease prevention through food safety
  • discussing collaborative approaches to food safety in all sectors
  • promoting solutions and ways of improving food safety.

The 2021 celebrations will be targeting three sections of the population in different ways and on three separate days. A ‘women’s’ webinar entitled “Mujeres e inocuidad alimentaria: muchos nueces, poco ruido” will highlight food safety work and women in science, women in the public sector and women in industry.

Date and time: 7 June, 11:00 (15:00 GMT)

For the elderly, there will be a publication entitled “Inocuidad alimentaria, alimentación saludable y actividad física y social en tiempos de pandemia” which considers the difficulties faced by the elderly and vulnerable during the pandemic. The document focuses on food safety, but it incorporates other topics such as physical activity, psychosocial advice and nutrition.

To launch the publication, a discussion has been organized with the Executive Secretary of ACHIPIA, Nuri Gras, Dr Fernando Vio, President of the Corporation 5 al Día and Dr Cecilia Albala, Professor at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA) of the University of Chile.

Date and time: 8 June, 11:00 (15:00 GMT)

A digital publication of food safety stories will be aimed at encouraging young people to think about why food safety is important. This publication will be called “Stories for before and after washing your hands.” The publication is aimed at parents, educators, boys and girls in a creative journey highlighting the importance of food safety. For the publication launch, two of the stories will be narrated by Los Frutantes, a children's band dedicated to food issues, through a video that will have, in addition to the stories, songs alluding to food safety issues.

Date and time: 9 June, 16:00 (20:00 GMT)
