Constitutional provisions

Right to water: This Constitution shall be interpreted and applied to advance the individual dignity and address the particular needs of the people by dedicating public resources and focusing attention on the provision of gainful employment for the people, and improving their lives by, among other things, providing clean water (Art. 35).

Natural resources: The Constitution establishes secure ecologically sustainable development and the use of natural resources while promoting rational economic and social development so as to protect genetic stability and bio-diversity (Art. 41). The Constitution assigns powers with respect to the management of the Nile Waters, transboundary waters, national rivers and lakes and national water resources management in general (Schedule A).
