About us

The NAMES OF COUNTRIES database is also managed by the Terminology team but follows UN practice in order to standardize naming procedures throughout the UN system.

The Terminology team promotes the use of these databases through presentations, meetings, training sessions and international forums. Users interested in organizing workshops or training on these databases are kindly requested to contact FAOTERM.

The Terminology Library (FAO Headquarters, Room B208bis) provides a specialized library and a reference collection of FAO documentation for language services.

The Programming, Reference and Terminology Group is also testing new methods and technologies for terminology management, computer-assisted translation, referencing and information retrieval.

FAO Terminology is managed by the Programming, Reference and Terminology Group within the Meeting Programming and Documentation Service, KCCM.

The staff within the Terminology team manages and develops the FAOTERM multilingual terminology database in close collaboration with the various Translation Groups of FAO (Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish). The Terminology and Reference teams also provide a query service for all terminology and reference requests in FAO, from external translators and editors as well as for international organizations.
