National Forum on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Food Safety

Following the 25-year of the IPM development and implementation in the country, it is a time to bring all relevant stakeholders to meet and discuss the past, present and future of the IPM’s best practices and learns learnt.  In this regard, the GDA of MAFF is planning to organize a National Forum on IPM and Food Safety in Cambodia funded by IRRI and FAO. The event will bring together key agriculture experts, researchers, IPM trainers, farmers, lecturers, NGOs partners, and others concerned players within the country and regional level to share their accomplishments and best practices, lessons learned; and to identify remaining challenges and gaps in the development of IPM in the country, drawing a practical solutions and strategic priorities in order to promote ecological based IPM approach and food safety in Cambodia.

 

Objectives:

The overall objective of the forum are:

  1. Share results, achievements and lessons learned of the National IPM Program, and plant protection, good agriculture practices, organic crop production and related activities on food safety and agro-ecological practices in Cambodia.
  2. Present and discuss good case studies, research findings and other innovative programs in support of good and sustainable agriculture practices and development
  3. Discuss examples of integration of IPM and good practices for food safety throughout the food chain
  4. Strategically discuss the ways forward for scaling up IPM and related programs in the country towards sustainable ecological agriculture production and food safety.
  5. Prepare policy statement and advocacy for ecological agriculture production and future resource mobilization.
  6. 2-day National Forum is successfully completed with active participation of all key players in the country and at the regional level.
  7. Scenario and the ways forward for investment in IPM and  food safety through  a One Health strategy are developed
  8. Policy statement and advocacy actions for ecological agriculture production are prepared for strategic partnership and supports.

Expected outputs:

  1. 2-day National Forum is successfully completed with active participation of all key players in the country and at the regional level.
  2. Scenario and the ways forward for investment in IPM and  food safety through  a One Health strategy are developed
  3. Policy statement and advocacy actions for ecological agriculture production are prepared for strategic partnership and supports.

Date and location:

The forum will take place at the APSARA Palace Hotel, Siem Reap Province of the Kingdom of Cambodia for 2 days on 28-29 October 2019

 

Participants:

The forum will bring together approximately 180 participants (40% women) who are policy makers, donors, farmers, IPM trainers, agriculture experts, NGOs/IOs, researchers and lecturers who are working toward food safety
