A Write-shop on “The Institutionalization of FS in Learning Institutions” was held in Watamu, Kilifi county, 24-29 April.

02/05/2017

A congregation of great thinkers in devising a strategy for inclusion of Field School approaches in learning institutions within Eastern Africa.

Under the programme “Institutionalization of Field Schools on Eastern Africa” FAO-RTEA is facilitating a write-shop to review the course content for Pwani University in Kilifi County, Kenya and to develop related training materials. As a part of a larger initiative by FAO and Partners to institutionalize Field Schools (FS) in Eastern Africa, the objective of the write-shop is to define how to best incorporate the FS methodology in the teaching curriculum of Pwani University.

The outputs from the write-shop will feed into a process lead by our partner the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) to develop a generic FS training module to be adapted and contextualized by other training institutions in Eastern Africa. The participants have been drawn from the University of Nairobi, Hawassa University, Makerere University, Egerton University, Arapai University of Agriculture and six schools (faculties) from Pwani University.

Technical backstopping is being done by FAO, two FS Master Trainers, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MoALF) representative and IIRR specialists.
