| English | The June 2011 issue of FAN contains an editorial on "Development and implementation of the FAO guidelines for aquaculture certification" which represents an important achievement of all FAO member countries and the COFI Sub- Committee on Aquaculture secretariat. The aquaculture highlights include articles on the 29th Session COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture; three new technical cooperation projects in the Asia-Pacific region; capacity building for aquaculture development in Central Asia; strengthening aquatic biosecurity capacity in western Balkan region. It also focuses on aquaculture projects, the promotion and development of freshwater aquaculture in Haiti; preliminary notes on forecasting country¿s¿ future demand for fish; organic aquaculture in Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand and; reducing the dependence on the utilization of trash fish/low-value fish as feed for aquaculture of marine finfish in the Asian region. Finally, one section describes the main outcomes of meetings and workshops recently organized by the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department¿s Aquaculture Service. Other articles and FAO aquaculture publications are also featured. |
