| Office of the Assistant Director-General (FID) exercises management responsibility over all Fisheries and Aquaculture Department programmes and activities, ensures consultation and cooperation on international fishery issues through intergovernmental channels, and cooperates with other units of FAO in activities of common interest. FID has two units which provide specific department-wide services. See the list of FID staff and responsibilities
The structure and operations of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department have evolved with FAO's recent restructuring to focus more on normative activities, including projects which provide extra-budgetary support to these activities. In the 2006-07 biennium, the Department comprises three technical divisions, seven services and one Programme Coordination Unit under an Assistant Director-General for Fisheries employing 74 professional staff in Headquarters covering a wide range of fisheries related disciplines.
