› Anti-nutritional factors within feed ingredients

The inclusion of plant-derived feed ingredients is limited by the presence of a wide variety of anti-nutritional substances. Some of these are protease inhibitors, phytates, glucosinolates, saponins tannins, lectins, oligosaccharides and non-starch polysaccharides, phytoestrogens, alkaloids, antigenic compounds, gossypols, cyanogens, mimosine, cyclopropenoid fatty acids, canavanine, antivitamins, and phorbol esters. These can sometimes be inactivated by ingredient processing methods such as heat. This part of the database records the anti-nutritional factors found in specific ingredients and the method of inactivation and toxic level where available.

› Ingredient digestibility report

An important part of nutrition research is to determine the diet and ingredient digestibilities for a particular species. This part of the database records the apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of nutrients and energy in selected feed ingredients and for selected aquaculture species. Such studies can focus on one or all of the following: dry matter, protein, lipid, fiber or chitin, ash, calcium, phosphorus, nitrogen-free extract (carbohydrate),  energy, average amino acid, and specific amino acids.
