Giant river prawn - Supplemental feeds & feeding

Feeding of prawns under monoculture condition should begin 1-2 days after stocking. Grow out stocking densities range from 0.5-2.5 scampi per m2 in polyculture and 1-5 per m2 in monoculture (Mitra et al., 2005). For the first month, supplemental feeds such as distillery by-products can be used at an average of 25 kg per ha per day, distributing half in the morning and half in the evening. During the second month, commercial pellets containing 32 percent crude protein is mixed with the distiller’s grains and fed to prawns. During months three and four the prawns are fed on pellets. After the prawns reach an average size of 5 grams the daily ration is calculated on the basis of prawn biomass.  From 5-15 grams, they are fed at 7 percent of body mass per day, from 15-25 grams at 5 percent, and greater than 25 grams at 3 percent of total prawn biomass per day.
