MissionObjectivesThe overall objective of the ASFA Partnership is to disseminate information on aquatic sciences and fisheries to the world community, bearing in mind the special interests of developing countries in this field.

Organizations interested in contributing literature to ASFA or in joining the ASFA Partnership should contact the ASFA Partner in their country. If there is no ASFA Partner in your country, contact the ASFA Secretariat at FAO.

Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) is an International Cooperative Information System which comprises an abstracting and indexing service covering the world's literature on the science, technology, management, and conservation of marine, brackish water, and freshwater resources and environments, including their socio-economic and legal aspects.

The ASFA "Partnership Agreement" establishes the rights and responsibilities of the ASFA Partners. Partners entitlements to ASFA information products are listed in Article 5 of the Publishing Agreement between FAO and ProQuest (2016-2019) . To become a member of the ASFA Partnership, organizations must agree (through signature) to the conditions contained in the ASFA Partnership Agreement. The Partnership Agreement also describes the functions of the ASFA Advisory Board and the ASFA Secretariat.

Management The ASFA Partnership is composed of an international network of co-operating institutions and organisations. The ASFA Partners are responsible for monitoring, selecting, abstracting and indexing literature relevant to the aquatic sciences for inclusion in the ASFA bibliographic database. The FAO ASFA Secretariat is currently working
  • to expand the geographic coverage of ASFA to include more developing countries
  • to extend the language capacity of the database
  • to provide improved access to the ASFA database to scientists and institutions in developing countries
Principal authority All ASFA Partners are represented on the ASFA Advisory Board, which meets once a year and produces annual ASFA Advisory Board Meeting Reports. Secretariat FAO provides the Secretariat for the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) Partnership.
