EAF Steps

  • Activity 1.2 - Defining the fishery, societal values and high level objectives
  • Activity 2.1 - Asset and Issue identification
  • Activity 2.2 - Issue Prioritisation and risk assessment

Purpose

To provide PowerPoint and other EAF presentation materials that can be used in stakeholder meetings and workshops to assist:

  • outline the principles of EAF and the EAF planning process,
  • develop the scope of the fishery,
  • the identification of assets and issues,
  • prioritisation of the identified issues.

Overview

A number of PowerPoint presentations have been developed over the past 10 years that have been used to assist with EAF related stakeholder workshops and meetings. These presentations include overviews and background information on:

  • EAF principles,
  • a summary of the steps involved in completing the EAF planning and implementation process,
  • outline of how to generate the fishery scope and values,
  • how to identify issues suing component trees,
  • how to prioritise issues using qualitative risk assessment.

Each of these presentations is available to be downloaded from the FAO website (see below).

EAF Tool Tips

While the materials in these presentations are consistent with the content of the webpages on EAF they may be more expansive or use examples to try and get the message across. Where the examples are of fisheries or situations that are very different to the one you are looking at examining, it may be sensible to change the text to more clearly target your audience.

The use of the PowerPoint presentations may not be suitable in all situations not only for logistic reasons (they obviously require access to a computer, projector, power and a suitable venue), but these styles of presentations may not be very effective for some stakeholder groups. Further, the presentation should preferably be in the language that will be used by most people in the meeting.

EAF Tool Pedigree

The presentations were first developed some time ago and have been used and modified extensively by FAO staff.

EAF Tool Usage

Easy

Cost

Low

There is no cost in the use of the presentations but the costs wil be essentially those to run the meetings where they will be presented.

EAF Tool Capacity

Moderate

The use of these presentations requires the knowledge about the EAF planning process. It is expected that the people presenting the material would have been to some course on EAF or have participated in a number of EAF exercises previously to understand sufficiently the concept to present the material effectively.

The PowerPoint presentations require access to a computer, screen, projector, power and a suitable venue.

Background Requirements

Low

There is no need to for formal knowledge about the fishery to be available to use the presentations. The outcome of these activities would be the generation of information on the fishery.

Participation

Moderate - High

The purpose of having and using these presentations is to assist in participation of stakeholders.

Time Range

Short

The presentations are designed to be used in workshops – each of them only takes about half an hour to one hour to present. The training versions are longer than the workshop versions.
