Support for the Implementation of the International Plan of Action to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IPOA IUU)
IUU fishing has been identified in a wide range of international fora as a major constraint to the achievement of responsible fisheries. Component activities aim to strengthen the capacities of national agencies and regional fisheries bodies and arrangements to combat pirate fishing, through the elaboration of National Plans of Action (NPOAs) and support for regional initiatives.

Component status:Operational from August 2002
CCRF Reference:IPOA IUU; UN Fish Stocks Agreement; IPOA Capacity; CCRF Articles 6, 7, 8, 11
Budget 2002-2006:ca. USD0.5 million
Primary Geo-focus:Global (Regional fisheries bodies; less developed countries and countries in transition)
Duration:Continuing. Additional donor participation invited. Est. further budget required 2006-2007 = USD 1.05 million (USD350 000 per region: Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa).

Comprehensive Global Record of Fishing Vessels (GR)
Illegal, unrecorded and unregulated (IUU) fishing is one of the greatest threats to sustainable fisheries and those whose lives depend on them. Additional tools are being sought to assist in the battle to prevent IUU fishing and related activities. One such potential tool under consideration is the Comprehensive Global Record (GR) of Fishing Vessels. This would contain a variety of information about fishing vessels and their activities, and would be publicly accessible.
