Support for Implementation of the International Plan of Action for Management of Fishing Capacity (IPOA Capacity)

The need both to avoid creating further fishing capacity and to reduce existing capacity poses extraordinary challenges to attaining responsible fisheries in many parts of the world. ‘CapCurb’ Component activities involve provision of guidance and advice regarding the management of fishing capacity through regional workshops and dissemination of multi-disciplinary information regarding the management of fishing capacity, including formulation of NPOAs.

Budget 2002-2006:	ca. USD 30 000 in ad hoc allocations from the FishCode Trust (No dedicated allocation/project as yet)
Primary Geo-focus:	Global (Regional fisheries bodies; less developed countries and countries in transition)
Duration:	Continuing. Additional donor participation invited. Est. further budget required 2006-2007 = USD 1.05 million (USD350 000 per region: Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa).
