| Species EnvironmentCapelin is an oceanic species spending most of their life in pelagic waters of continental shelf (between 0-300 m). Found grouped in large schools, feeds on planktonic crustaceans. Moves inshore in large schools to spawn. In the spring large spawning shoals migrate toward the coasts, males usually arrive first. Often entering brackish and freshwater.
